Sally Lunns Bath

Bath, UK

Sally Lunn's Historic Eating House & Museum

Fudge Kitchen

I lead tours to Europe, and whenever, I get the chance, especially when my group tour members have free time or have lunch, I like to take a walk around the Old Town all over Europe. When I was in Bath in February earlier this year, I had the opportunity to check out these two places mentioned above.

When I walked past Fudge Kitchen, I was intrigued to walk in for the demonstration in the shop and at the same time, try out their famous fudge.

Fudge Kitchen

Story behind Fudge Kitchen
(( From Fudge Kitchen's website))
We first started making fudge in the UK, as Jim Garrahy's Fudge Kitchen, back in 1983 - but the story of fudge goes back even further...

Fudge is born from a fudge

Fudge originates not from Devon or Cornwall, as many people imagine, but was in fact ‘born’ at a female college in Virginia, USA.
A college lecturer was taking a class in toffee making when the temperature of the concoction was not taken high enough. The end product was called ‘fudge', which is why the term ‘fudge’ is used to indicate a mistake or error.
The US remains one of the fudge-making centres of the world. For example tiny Mackinac Island off the coast of Michigan has over fourteen fudge shops in just two streets, many dating back to the 19th Century.
The fudge we make today is inspired by this heritage. Our recipe dates back to 1830, and we still make our fudge by hand on marble slabs.

It’s fudge Jim, but not as we know it

Our American-style slab fudge is made using whipping cream instead of butter, giving a creamy soft texture and distinctive flavour.
All our fudge is freshly made and sold at our shops in Bath, York, Cambridge, Canterbury, Windsor, Edinburgh and Oxford. Visit one of our shops and you can try a free sample and catch one of our unique fudge making demonstrations.
If you can't make it to a shop fear not - you can buy our fudge online and from selected stockists across the UK.

This Big sign outside the store attracted my attention.

Watch the live demonstration inside the store.

I bought one of these, and it tasted so delicious.. 8.5/10

The brown one that you see above, and beside the white fudge, is their famous - salted caramel, which is heavenly!

If you have a sweet tooth like me, you must drop by this Shop, when you are in the Historic Centre of Bath, and it is very close by to the Roman Bath's entrance.

After I bought the fudge from the store, I asked for recommendation for a place where I could eat lunch. And I mentioned to the sales staff there, that I only like to eat or sample local food, and so long there is a place which serves traditional food, I will love to go there. Thus, I was given the recommendation to go to Sally Lunn's Historic Eating House .

Sally Lunn's Historic Eating House & Museum

(( From Sally Lunn's website ))
Sally Lunn's is much more than a world famous tea and eating house in the centre of the wonderful city of Bath England. Our historic building is one of the oldest houses in Bath. Our kitchen museum shows the actual kitchen used by the legendary young Huguenot baker Sally Lunn in Georgian Bath to create the first Bath bun – an authentic regional speciality now known the world over.
Sally Lunn’s is open for morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, pre-theatre dinner and dinner. Menus offer historic refreshment based on the original Sally Lunn bun – still baked to a secret recipe – and rich in local cuisine and authentic historic dishes. We are a truly authentic English eating house serving regional English food – including our  trencher dinner.

TIPS:
You have to try to go there early to join the line. This is a famous place, especially, it is the oldest house here in the Historic centre of Bath. However, the service is fast, and prompt. After all, there are 3 floors of space for the tables. In fact, I didnt have so much time to have my meal, after the waiting time. I waited only about 10 minutes. And shortly after placing my order, the food came in about 5 minutes time. But, I enjoyed my meal thoroughly. If I get the chance to come back here again, I would come back for the English tea session.

If you are in Bath, do come here for a meal.
